Yesterday on our Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) News site, I covered a story regarding Zebra Technologies, a self-described “industry connector” of people, assets and data in spaces like warehouse and distribution, manufacturing plants, field ops, transportation and logistics, retail and more.
Zebra recently unveiled the findings of its “2024 Manufacturing Vision Study,” which covered top challenges industry decision-makers are facing; digitalization of operations at scale, long-term investments for improving production traceability and supply chain visibility, the rise of artificial intelligence and use cases therein, accommodating sustainability in IIoT, and more. Today, our leadership team shared a new announcement that revolves around both Zebra Technologies and NTT DATA, the IT services arm of NTT that serves thousands of unique clients with high-value digital transformation solutions delivered with an expert-driven, consultative approach.
The news in question?
Zebra Technologies and NTT DATA have entered a strategic partnership, to quote the official announcement, “aimed at accelerating innovation in the 5G device ecosystem and meet the growing demand for more connectivity and devices to power AI at the edge.”
Under the terms of this new multi-year agreement, Zebra and NTT DATA will “co-innovate” to drive the wide-scale adoption of 5G devices and break down barriers to private 5G for enterprises. Together, Zebra and NTT plan to enable more intelligent asset tracking, for example, that allows for real-time monitoring and management of assets in enterprise deployments, shoring up concerns regarding visibility, efficiency, and security capabilities that are ultra-critical for countless industries. Another example involves Zebra aligning with NTT DATA’s Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) practice; this will make it easier accessibility-wise for customers to simplify their respective 5G device lifecycle management and support processes.
“This partnership with NTT DATA underscores our commitment to bring customers the latest innovations powered by game-changing Wi-Fi, private LTE, and private 5G networks,” said Julie Johnson, Zebra Technologies’ Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Mobile Computing. “We’re very excited to leverage the global scale of NTT DATA’s capabilities to benefit our customers and be a vital part of a growing 5G device ecosystem, ensuring businesses can thrive in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.”
Shahid Ahmed, Group Executive Vice President of Edge Services at NTT DATA, also rallied with enthusiasm. “In our relentless pursuit to drive private 5G and edge AI adoptions within enterprises, we’re thrilled to be joining forces with Zebra Technologies globally,” Ahmed explained. “This alliance underscores our dedication to empowering enterprises with transformative capabilities that propel edge and private 5G use cases and data-driven experiences.”
