Athonet Expands 5G Consortium

By Greg Tavarez

Mobile core network provider Athonet saw that there was a need to bring together various parts of the private wireless ecosystem to promote products and services that support LTE, 5G, and CBRS private network deployments. It formed a consortium of partners to address the private networks market, known as the 5G Consortium

Looking to expand the Consortium’s global expertise, Athonet brought in Airspan, Ambra, Imagine Wireless, Integra Network Solutions, Italtel, RippleLink, Teal Communications, Tessco and X4000 Communications as new consortium members.

Airspan is a 4G/5G RAN hardware and software vendor, as well as a fixed wireless network densification solution provider, with a portfolio of indoor and outdoor products.

"Airspan is delighted to join with Athonet on their 5G Consortium,” said Henrik Smith-Petersen, chief sales and marketing officer, Airspan. “Airspan's proven, Open RAN infrastructure products and new, distinctive, and innovative all-in-one 5G gNB's continue to propel the evolution of cost leading network architectures."

Italtel assists customers with choosing suitable solutions for the characteristics of their business to integrate them with new technologies according to hybrid-cloud and cybersecurity logic. The company accomplishes this through its ability for system integration with multi-technology application, on products and technologies.

"What we need today to push 5G private mobile networks is the creation of an ecosystem of technological partners working together to provide an end-to-end solution - the Athonet 5G Consortium fills this gap,” said Giovanni D'Onofrio, 5G marketing manager, Italtel.

Knowing that CBRS and Private LTE has created an inflection point that will fundamentally change wireless connectivity, RippleLink designs and delivers CBRS Private LTE networks. This comes when the latest generation of mobile devices, laptops and tablets are CBRS capable.

"We are very excited to participate in the 5G Consortium to help support the private LTE community promote and develop the awareness and capabilities of private LTE networking,” said James R. Smith, co-founder, RippleLink. “The 5G Consortium will accelerate the understanding, development and reality of Private LTE."
